NLP 101: Power of your voice

I love language patterns. That is a large part of what drew me to NLP so many years ago. The funny thing is, the words we use are only a small portion of how — and what — we communicate.

A much more impactful aspect of our communication is the way in which we say those words. Our vocal qualities add a richness and depth to our communication, as well as another channel for our message.

Plus, there is the fact that sound waves don’t just hit our ears. The tone of a voice actually bathes the hearer in sound waves. A “grating” voice is not just a turn of phrase, it is an indication of a physical reaction to those vocal qualities. (Just think of your first reaction to Bobcat Goldwaith or Fran Drescher’s voice!)

And, as I’m sure you are beginning to notice, more impact can be made when we use a soothing voice. There are some quick methods for getting started improving your voice in moments in the first installment of NLP Monthly.
